While axiom decided to base his team on the Jes Goodwin Blood Bowl elves I decided to take a different route. Like axiom I decided to take the dark path and try to create my own Jes Goodwin dark elf team. How I wish that Jes had done the dark elves as well and not just Tuern Redvenom. I never considered Gary Morley's 3 rd edition dark elf team as they are as ugly as everything else he sculpted and not in the same league as Jes Goodwin's elf minitures that I loved to paint. Normally I'm a huge fan of everything 2 nd edition, but the dark elf miniatures just have so short legs that they would be better suited as chaos dwarves. Still I didn't get around to paint the team and it was only when I discovered axiom's excellent dark elf Blood Bowl team that it became apparent to me that the reason was that I just didn't like the miniatures. His head was kindly donated by a Marauder sea elf. The result was a converted 2 nd edition dark elf thrower with his right hand repositioned and his legs removed and replaced by the legs of an old Warhammer wardancer. One of the changes was the introduction of runners and though they are comparable to conventional throwers I still wanted to convert a miniature that would catch the feel of a fast elf dumping off the ball. The years passed and I forgot all about my beloved dark elves, but then the dark elf roster was changed as it was too similar to the high elf roster. This time I wanted to recreate the 2 nd edition team the Naggaroth Nightwings. I enjoyed playing the team, but I didn't enjoy painting the miniatures. In the early days of Blood Bowl 3 rd edition I ran a dark elf squad named the Purple Reign. I've played them in local leagues, tournaments and on fumbbl and I've always preferred them to their lawful wood elf and high elf cousins.įor some reason I've never painted a team of these evil elves though I've owned the miniatures for ages and it was only recently that I found out why. They are probably on par with the high elves, a bit more fragile at the trade of a more explosive offence.I've always loved dark elves. However the ease at which they can score may counteract that at times. The fact that the Catchers are so good at what they do, you may find they tend to hog all the SPP and you have to be careful about spreading the skills around the team.įor beginners their low armour can prove to be difficult for defending against certain teams and there may be games where you have few players on the pitch. Though their Linemen are the cheapest of all the Elf teams but they do have low armour, so you don’t want to get involved in a brawl. The bad news is the Blitzers and Catchers aren’t cheap and will get targeted. The Blitzers are also good and have a nice starting combination of skills which make them great at harassing the opposing ball carrier. They don’t suffer from the low strength that other players of their type have. The Catchers are also really good at getting interceptions if you place them well and this can help force the other team to play the ball where you would prefer. Their ability to catch a ball in heavy traffic makes the team very hard to defend against. They are by far the best Catcher in the game, being fast, average strength and starting with Nerves Of Steel. Their biggest feather in their cap is their Catchers. QTYĮlf teams are the cheapest of the four elven races that are available to play. Sporting facemasks and mohawks, they take to the pitch to relive the glory days they once played in. Those teams that have survived the fallout are not as rich as the High Elf teams nor as well equipped, but they sure know how to play the game. When the NAF collapsed, many Elven teams were left penniless.
